Steeped in history, Languedoc boasts stories from prehistoric caves with Tautavel man’s drawings dating back to 450,000 BC, Knights Templars and the crusade against the Cathars, to the construction of the Canal du Midi.

Wine is big business in the Languedoc-Roussillon region with over 700,000 acres of vineyards across the area, accounting for a third of the wine produced in France, it is the world’s biggest wine producing region. You can find international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as its own traditional grapes grown by appellations such as the Corbieres AOC, producing some of the finest red wines in the world.
